Dogs will be taught long stays (a one minute sit and a three minute down) while the trainer is forty feet across the ring. Handling do’s and don’ts will be covered in this class and how to fill out the forms to enter a dog show for the Novice Obedience Ring.

Instructor: Lieselotte Hookey
Duration: 6 weeks
Cost: $129 (20% discount for members who worked 20 volunteers hours in 2016) + includes online processing fee

Open Obedience

Open is an advanced class of obedience with more complicated exercises, which teach the dog to do a variety of tasks and follow commands either by voice or signal. The dog will be taught a drop on recall while coming towards you, by either hand signal or voice command. Your dog will continue with precision heeling to do a figure eight off lead, retrieve a dumbbell over a high jump and on the flat, jump a broad jump and will be taught long stays (three minute sit and a five minute down) while the trainer is out of sight.

Special requirement for this class: dog must know the “dumbbell retrieve”.
