Novice Drill

Novice Class

Class Description: The competition novice level is important, because it is the foundation for the higher levels. Dogs should learn to be confident, steady, and motivated workers, as this will set the tone for open and utility levels. This class will include motivated heel exercises including: the figure 8, learn to get attention from your dog even when distracted, fun recalls, fronts and finishes, a steady confident stand with exam, the new updated version of sit and down stays, and the new exercise “sit stay-get your leash”.
Prerequisites: To participate in this class, dogs must have taken basic classes and/or CGC classes. Dog does not have to have a title.

Open Class

Class Description: Open is an advanced class of obedience with more complicated exercises, which teach the dog to do a variety of tasks and follow commands either by voice or signal. The dog will be taught a drop on recall while coming towards you, by either hand signal or voice command. Your dog will continue with precision heeling to do a figure eight off lead, retrieve a dumbbell over a high jump and on the flat, jump a broad jump and will be taught long stays (three minute sit and a five minute down) while the trainer is out of sight.
Prerequisites: Your dog should know all of the Novice exercises and already be familiar with the “dumbbell retrieve”.
What to Bring: Properly fitting dumbbell, 6′ leash, and plenty of high value non crunchy treats or toys.

Utility Obedience Classes

Utility Problem Solving

Class Description: Various problem solving solutions for the Utility exercises along with what to do in the competition ring when something goes wrong.
Prerequisites: Basic performance of all the Utility exercises by both the dog and handler
What to Bring: Articles, gloves, good treats, toys, sense of humor, patience, and perseverance
Starts: Tuesday, 11/28/2017 @ 3:45 PM No Class December 26.

Introduction to Utility

Class Description: This class is an advanced skills class and covers all of the exercises to prepare the dog to compete in Utility, including signals, scent discrimination, go-outs, high and bar jumps, glove retrieve and moving stand.
Prerequisites: Proficiency in Open skills or by permission of the instructor.
What to Bring: Articles, gloves, good treats, toys, sense of humor, patience, and perseverance
Starts: Thursday, 1/11/2018 @ 5:00 PM FULL
