Novice Drill

Class Description: In Novice Drill class we will be practicing heeling in group as well as individual short sequences with & without distractions. All of the exercises in both Beginner Novice & Novice will be perfected to go into the ring successfully. Learn how to heel successfully without lagging & nagging!
Prerequisites: To participate in this class, dogs must have taken Basic and Intermediate Obedience classes. They must also be almost ready to compete in Beginner Novice or Novice Obedience. You do not have to have a title to participate.
What to bring: 6′ leash, a piece of string or ribbon to slip thru the collar loop as well as several types of treats including one for high level rewards only.

Open Drill

Class Description: Opportunity to practice Open exercises.
Prerequisites: To participate in this class, dogs must have taken Novice Obedience classes or have their CD. They must be taking the dumbbell and be almost ready to compete in Open. All dogs participating must be dog-friendly. Multiple people will be working on different exercises off-leash in the same ring.
What to bring: 6′ leash, a piece of string or ribbon to slip thru the collar loop, dumbbell as well as several types of treats including one for high level rewards only.

Utility Drill

Class Description: Opportunity to practice Utility exercises.
Prerequisites: To participate in this class, dogs must have taken classes through Open. They must also be almost ready to compete in Utility. Dogs must be dog friendly and be able to work in ring with multiple dogs off-leash.
What to bring: 6′ leash, a piece of string or ribbon to slip thru the collar loop, dumbbell and Utility articles as well as several types of treats including one for high level rewards only.

Pre Novice Classes

Novice Prep School

Class Description: The Novice Prep class is important, because it is the foundation for the higher levels and gives the handler the opportunity to work with their dog in a show ring setting. Dogs should learn to be confident, steady, and motivated workers. This class will include working with Rally signs, motivated heel exercises including: the figure 8, learning to get attention from your dog even when distracted, fun recalls, fronts, a steady confident sit with exam, the sit stay while you walk around the ring, and the recall from approximately 25 feet away.

Prerequisites: To participate in this class, dogs must have taken basic and intermediate classes and/or Rally Novice classes. You do not have to have a title.
What to bring: Come to class with plenty of training treats and the motivation to have fun!

Novice Classes

CO Novice Foundation I

Description Let’s get ready to earn your Novice CD Title. We will begin work on heeling and learn how to motivate our dogs. Yes….figure 8’s can be fun and let’s learn a kick back stand for exam. Recalls with emphasis on the all too important front. Sit and down stay for 1 minute on a 6’ leash. So are you ready? Come join the fun and let’s get started on the road to a title.
Prerequisite: To be ready for this class it is helpful to have taken any one or more of these classes……Basic, Intermediate, Novice Prep School, CGC.
What to Bring: 6’ leash, assorted treats, tug toy, jackpot jar (filled with high value treats)

Open Classes

CO Open Foundation Part I

Description The open level skills will require the dog to do a recall with a drop and to jump and retrieve. Dogs are measured at the withers and will jump their height, doubled that for the broad jump. The retrieve will be taught in this class. Please have a proper fitting dumbbell. In this foundation level we will learn all the exercises from the ground up with motivational games to keep dogs interested. We will learn the new exercises that will go into effect as of May 1, 2018 Command discrimination and Stay get your leash.
Prerequisite: To participate in this class dogs should have a retrieve or have started on the dumbbell. Know novice level exercises and be familiar with open level exercises. Know your jump height. Titles not necessary.
What to Bring: Short heeling leash, collar tab, dumbbell, string cheese and other assorted treats (not including boiled chicken), jackpot jar and a tug toy

CO Open Foundation Part II

Description In this second level of open we will continue to break down exercises to get speed and accuracy while having fun. We will start to raise the jump height for each dog. Each dog and handler will have their own criteria depending on where they are in their training. We will work together to get focus from distractions.
Prerequisite:Dogs should have finished the Novice Foundation level and be started on the retrieve and jumping.
What to Bring:Dumbbell, short heel leash, collar tab, assorted treats(no cookie bags), tug toy,clicker and jackpot jar.

Utility Classes

Utility

Description Covered in this highly skilled class will be all of the exercises, to prepare the dog to compete in Utility. This class teaches go-outs, signals, scent discrimination (articles), high and bar jumps, glove retrieve and moving stand.
Prerequisite: Dog and handler should have taken a competition class or are familiar with this level. Dog’s must know a retrieve and will jump.
What to Bring: Scent articles, set of 3 gloves, a target, tug toy, assorted treats, squeeze cheese and a jackpot jar.

Advanced Special Purpose Classes

CO Competitive Obedience Proofing – Open and Utility

Description This class is for the handler who wishes to improve scores. Teams are expected to have a basic grasp of open and /or utility exercises. Techniques will be demonstrated to improve the precision necessary for high scores. Handlers will be shown how to dissect exercises, recognizing the dog’s strong points and weaknesses.
Prerequisite: Basic understanding of open – utility exercises. The dog must not be aggressive in any way.
What to Bring: Dumbell, gloves, articles, treats, and a happy attitude!
Starts: Wednesday, 2/5/2020 @ 12:00 pm

Description Solve all your handler errors and problems in Open and Utility
Prerequisite: Each dog should be about to be entering trials or already showing in trials in either one or both of the levels.
What to Bring: Dumbell, gloves, articles, treats, and a smile.

Member Training

Description Unstructured Ring time for members. The regulation ring can be used for timed practice (10 minutes per person).
The smaller ring can be utilized as well for heeling and short distance exercises, (i.e., moving stand, figure 8, retrieve on the flat, broad jump).
