Novice Classes

Novice Drill

Prerequisites: To participate in this class, dogs must have taken Basic and Intermediate Obedience classes. They must also be almost ready to compete in Beginner Novice or Novice Obedience. You do not have to have a title to participate.
Instructor: Betty Gansky
Date/time: Mondays @4:30 PM starting 1/14/2019. No class 9/2; 9/9, 11/4.
Cost: $10 nonmembers/$8 members
No need to pre-register – this is a drop in class opportunity.

Novice Prep School

Class Description: The Novice Prep class is important, because it is the foundation for the higher levels and gives the handler the opportunity to work with their dog in a show ring setting. Dogs should learn to be confident, steady, and motivated workers. This class will include working with Rally signs, motivated heel exercises including: the figure 8, learning to get attention from your dog even when distracted, fun recalls, fronts, a steady confident sit with exam, the sit stay while you walk around the ring, and the recall from approximately 25 feet away.

Prerequisites: To participate in this class, dogs must have taken basic and intermediate classes and/or Rally Novice classes. You do not have to have a title.
What to bring: Come to class with plenty of training treats and the motivation to have fun!

CO Novice Foundation II

Description Intro to retrieve/jumps. In the second novice level we will continue to work on the heel exercise on and off leash, figure 8, perfect fronts and finishes, stand with exam and stays. Handling skills and ring procedure will be addressed.
We will also start on the dumbbell retrieve and introduce the dogs to the jumps.

Prerequisite: To participate in this class dogs must have taken a basic or CGC class it is also helpful to take our Novice Prep School class. Dogs do not have to have a title.
What to Bring: 6’ leash, short heel leash, tug toy, assorted treats, target lid, jack pot jar, and a dumbbell if you have one. If not one can be ordered.

Utility Classes

CO Utility Foundation l / Open drills

Description In this session we will continue to break down all the utility exercises to get clear motivational responses and focus on each part before we put the whole exercise together. Each student will work at their own learning level with total instruction to move forward.
We will continue to do the open exercises with critiques and training tips. Putting emphasis on handling skills, and fine tuning for ring performance.

Prerequisite: Dogs and handlers should be familiar with all the open level exercises. Dogs and handlers do not need to be familiar with the utility exercises. No titles required.
What to Bring:Short heel leash, collar tab, dumbbell, tug toy, clicker, targets, utility scent articles, gloves, assorted treats, and a jackpot jar.

Advanced Special Purpose Classes

CO Competitive Obedience Proofing – Open and Utility

Description This class is for the handler who wishes to improve scores. Teams are expected to have a basic grasp of open and /or utility exercises. Techniques will be demonstrated to improve the precision necessary for high scores. Handlers will be shown how to dissect exercises, recognizing the dog’s strong points and weaknesses.
Prerequisite: Basic understanding of open – utility exercises. The dog must not be aggressive in any way.
What to Bring: Dumbell, gloves, articles, treats, and a happy attitude!
Starts: Wednesday, 12/4/19 @ 4:30 pm

CO Problem Solving – Open & Utility

Description Solve all your handler errors and problems in Open and Utility
Prerequisite: Each dog should be about to be entering trials or already showing in trials in either one or both of the levels.
What to Bring: Dumbell, gloves, articles, treats, and a smile.
Starts: Thursday, 1/9/2020 @ 1:00 PM Class meets for 1.5 hours
