We endorse the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen program as a measure of good manners in companion and competition dogs. More than 700,000 dogs have passed the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen exam nationwide. It is an important milestone in successful therapy and service dog training.
AKC offers three levels of Canine Good Citizen tests.
- AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC)
Basic level of the CGC program - AKC Community Canine (CGCA)
The AKC Community Canine program is all about ensuring you have a well-behaved dog while you’re out and about in the community. - AKC Urban Canine Good Citizen (CGCU)
Another step beyond the basic CGC test, the AKC Urban CGC title, tests your CGC skills in an active city or town setting.
Canine Good Citizen Classes Offered

The Register for CGC Tests form will ask you to select the level of CGC Test level you would like to take. First level of Canine Good Citizen (CGC), or AKC Community Canine, the advanced level of AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGCA), or CGCU: Urban CGC testing is conducted at community destinations.
Once you select the level of the Test, you will be able to select the test date.
